Why Does the U.S. Support Israel?

While many Americans remain divided on the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the U.S. government is very pro-Israel. In fact, the U.S. gives more foreign aid to Israel than to any other country in the world. So why are we such big supporters of the nation? And what's in it for us?
